Why is there
such a process?
Interested citizens and organizations have
banded together to create order and build "quality control" in
Charlotte-area capital and endowment requests. The result is the
Charlotte Capital Campaign Planning Board. In order to facilitate
an ongoing process of review for capital and endowment campaigns,
the Capital Campaign Planning Board has established a Work Group to
"pre-screen" campaign requests.
The Work Group is made up of
representatives of corporations, foundation donors, the City of
Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, United Way of Central Carolinas,
Inc., Arts & Science Council, other non-profit leaders and
financial specialists.
The Work Group of the CCPB will review the
materials from the applicant, determine if additional information
is required and ensure that the professional and volunteer
leadership of the applicant clearly articulate the applicant's
needs and goals. Based on this information, the Work Group will
make a recommendation to the Capital Campaign Planning Board to
schedule the proposed capital or endowment campaign on the CCPB
master calendar of campaigns. Following an in-person presentation
by the applicant, the Capital Campaign Planning Board will make a
final determination whether to place the proposed fund raising
effort on the CCPB master calendar. This calendar will be presented
to the media, donor community and public regularly to communicate
which campaigns have been approved through the CCPB.
The applicant should use the following
checklists to gather the proper information for the Work Group of
the CCPB. The applicant should print this material and use it to
create a notebook that will be reviewed, first, by the Work Group
of the Board. Changes or additions may be requested following the
Work Group's review. After these changes/additions are made, the
Capital Campaign Planning Board will formally review the material.
The checklist is divided into logical segments to organize the
material for the CCPB. Please preface each section of the notebook
with the appropriate printed section of the checklist. To begin,
complete the "Request for Capital Campaign Planning Board Review,"
which is on the following page.
